What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing. The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words -Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. The Reiki healing practice can help return us to balanced functioning on every level – physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, social – regardless of our age or state of health. Reiki supports and strengthens our natural ability to heal ourselves and achieve balance. The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the National Institutes of Health classifies Reiki as a form of energy medicine.
What occurs during a Reiki treatment?
During a Reiki treatment the hands of a trained Reiki practitioner are placed lightly on a fully clothed recipient who reclines or sits comfortably. The hands can also hover slightly above the recipient. The hands are generally moved through a series of stations on the head, torso and back, though additional hand placements may be used to meet the needs of the client.
What will a Reiki treatment feel like?
The experience of Reiki is very subjective and varies from person to person and treatment to treatment. Some recipients feel a warm tingling where the hands are placed, others feel soft waves or subtle pulsations flowing through their bodies and others feel nothing in particular. Most recipients feel very relaxed afterward with an enhanced sense of well-being.
Do I need to “believe” in Reiki?
You need not believe in anything in order to benefit from Reiki. You only have to be open-minded enough to experience treatment. Reiki is not religious or dogmatic in any way. Perhaps think of your first few sessions as an experiment. Observe the experience and note how you feel before and after. Although most people know very quickly if Reiki is of interest to them, for some it takes longer. Give yourself the time you need.
How can Reiki help me?
Reiki gently encourages a person’s system toward balance. Because of this, Reiki can benefit anyone – the list of benefits is long and very personal, both because people are imbalanced in different ways and because they notice and value different changes. Reiki combines well with any medical or alternative treatments, and there is no time when Reiki is dangerous. Reiki is used around the world to support people suffering with a variety of ailments. It is
frequently offered in the hospital as an adjunct to medical treatment.
What is a Chakra Balancing session?
In a chakra balancing reiki session, stones, crystals and essential oils will be used along with the reiki treatment to open, cleanse and heal the chakras.
Our chakras are the centers of energy in our bodies. We have seven major chakras that run from the crown of our head to our tailbone. Each chakra is associated with certain organs and glands in our physical body, certain emotions, and certain aspects of our spiritual self.
Balancing the chakras can bring wonderful healing to our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. Your seven chakra stones will be yours to keep and will assist you in maintaining proper energetic balance.
